The main types of equity release

There are a few different ways you can release equity from your home, with two main options:

  • A Lifetime Mortgage, is the most popular option where you can receive a loan secured against your home, which is only repayable when the last applicant passes away or moves into long term care. You can now service the interest on these schemes.
  • A Home Reversion, is less popular and means that you sell all or part of your home to a reversion company for tax-free cash while remaining in the property for as long as you wish.

Things to consider

  • With a lifetime mortgage, the most popular form of equity release, you’ll still retain full ownership of your home, and there are typically no monthly repayments to make unless you want to. The loan, plus compound interest, is repaid when the plan comes to an end.
  • Equity release may involve a lifetime mortgage which is a loan secured against your home.
  • Equity release will reduce the value of your estate and may affect your entitlement to means-tested benefits.
  • Unless you decide to go ahead, my service is completely free of charge, as my advice fee of £1,799 would only be payable on completion of a plan.

What my clients say

  • – Neil

“George was meticulous in ensuring that we understood exactly how Equity Release worked: the pros and cons, the benefits and disadvantages. All the Googling in the world will not replace expert subject knowledge, which helps one to make an informed, knowledgeable decision. Because lock-down meetings were conducted online using Zoom, this suited us as we were able to choose a time that suited us both with no concern about being held up in traffic or the car not starting! - Click on the link, and there he is waiting - brilliant. It is good to meet people face to face, but George lost nothing in personality or professionalism by being online: documents were displayed so that we could read through together and ask questions and personal id was simply a matter of taking a screenshot of our documents. George kept us informed every step of the way and returned phone calls in a timely fashion. We can't recommend him enough.”

His manner was very professional yet friendly and always accommodating. He made the whole process very easy, and we felt, as his clients, that he went that extra mile to secure us the very best products available on the market at that time.”
